I believe so...
A group called Knit the city decided that it was time for another covert mission! So on July 8th, the team set about turning a phonebox near Parliament + Big Ben into a giant tea cosie!!
In preparation... the cosie is laid out + all ready to go...
This team of renegade knitters have been 'yarnstorming' on the unsuspecting London police with these installations - as apparently while they were setting up this piece, the constabulary let them go with a 'Stop + Search warning' especially since one of the coppers said 'the wife knits!' Love it... its worth getting onto their site and checking them out!
Work by Kelly Robson
Another thing worth checking out in the flesh is the Alter Ego Exhibition at Gaffa Gallery that opened on Thursday night with a bang... The concept - by curator Zoe Brand- is fantastic as she flips the switch on artists' and their egos by asking all 9 participating artists' to work under an 'alter' to create a body of work they would ordinarily not exhibit ...
Installation by Lisa Furno
Such a great idea... and the results are interesting and surprising as jewellers become photographers and designers become painters... Its on until Aug 25th.
One last thing that Ive seen in the last few days that ties in with this idea of alter egos is the et al installation that is showing at the AGNSW... Et al are a group of anonymous artists from New Zealand that collaboratively work on projects that speak of the new world order of subterfuge and spying in the name of National Security... Thought it was an interesting work for the AGNSW to exhibit - and in a funny way- I liked the aesthetics as well as the ideas from this et al group ....
Ohhh one more thing on this same tangent...have you all seen the American tv show The Wire??? Im totally absorbed in it and have just started the 3rd series of dvds!! Thank you very much for the loan miss H!!! Ive just noticed that ABC2 are about to air this amazing HBO series...Jumping on the bandwagon methinks... considering its been seen by so many with boot leg copies from the States! I believe they've missed the boat alittle!
