paper play.

Anyone else noticed how BIG the paper craft movement is at the moment?

I certainly have. From the zine festivals, to the establishment of paper workshops, paper galleries, and paper convention collectives... things are definitely happening in the world of paper. And I guess in a way, it has come from people losing touch with paper. Which when saying, sounds totally insane. Paper as a material has been integral to everything we do... writing, reading, office work, artwork... well...everything! But now there is a shift away from the material to the electronic. Many of us use technology to get things done these days, and many have lost touch with what it's like to use, smell, touch, and engage with paper as a medium.

So now we have organised events to rally support for the humble paper! And all I have to say is... 'Hail the paper!!'

This week in Sydney, The Paper Mill Gallery, Object Gallery + The University of Sydney are playing with paper in The A4 Paper Festival in association with The Paper Convention Collective. And while I was at work this week, I thought I would take a few tiny photos of the pop up show that is now displayed in the Manga Pod for you to have a wee look at...

The work of Michelle Loxley...

Paper origami birds by Zoe Sadokierski...

Beautifully hand bound book by Irit Pollak...

If you would like to see more I suggest a visit to The A4 Paper Festival listing of daily events and get involved. But if you're a little too far away to participate, I would do just one thing...

Pick up a piece of coloured paper... and have some fun!
