So the Ceramic Triennale is just about to explode onto the city and there are a few things to mention that happen this week....
Honor Freeman begins her installation - 'Objects in Odd Circumstances' on Thursday July 9 and continues till Wed July 13 in various locations around Circular Quay and Martin Place....
The work will involve Honor placing ceramic objects to create unusual ambiguity and raise public general awareness. Porcelain bars of soap and drain plugs will be positioned in or near fountains and porcelain door handles will be placed on building facades...
So you have been warned!
If you happen to see a little bar of soap sitting all alone on a bench seat... you now know to pick it up and give it a closer look!! Should be brilliant... I love when artists play little jokes on unsuspecting commuters that do not have a clue!!
Also on Thursday Planet on Commonweath opens their show... 'On the Table too'...celebrating contemporary ceramics for the table. A few years ago, the original 'on the table' was a huge hit and this year their stable of ceramic artists' are back again to showcase their new concepts for contemporary dining....
Ive had a little sneak peek at Ruth McMillan's work for the show and it is beautiful... The image below shows you the work of Ruth from a few years ago which I still think of foldly from my days at Quadrivium!
But finally to finish off this weeks events... The 'Pourers' exhibition at Object Gallery begins on Saturday 11 July with invited artists exhibiting their versions of a pouring vessel... Some of the artists on view will be MelRobson, Simon Reece, Gerry Wedd, Ken Uranishi, Liz Low and on and on and on... Ive already got my eyes and purse strings pointed at a beautiful Gerry Wedd Blue and White Jug!! But the image below is of the new Mel Robson pieces that will be on show...mmmmmmm
But check out the triennale blog for updates and details....
And what am I trying to do??? Paint paint paint!! There are deadlines afoot and im trying to not freak out.... Music is soothing my soul though... This weeks Gilles Peterson show was brilliant...
