swonderful.....

The city is bloomin....
The colours, the textures, the light!
Its all happening.... and its so inspiring...

These images from the annual Spring flower installation at the David Jones city store is always fantastic, and this years theme of Great Southern Land was so so beautiful. The natives ran from one end of the ground floor to the other, making the usually stark + clinically white cosmetic floor into a riot of intense colour...and life!!

The arrangements were architecturally done with boxes erected in verticals to give a sense of height and let the flowers drape down to the floor. The vases were HUGE and it was the only way to do it - as the gum leaves and flowers were massive! It just goes to show you that in this country we do have some of the most amazing plant life!

And in the city centre - with all its construction sites and shades of grey- DJs has become an absolute sanctuary to be in... even for a department store!

Shame it cant stay longer but sadly it all comes down this Sunday Sep13...

But talking about vertical displays... I was walking past the Marriott Hotel near Hyde Park the other day and I noticed that they too had created a hanging garden. It is just outside the front door and it looks so lush and green I had to show you.... Now I know there any many many more fantastic examples of a hanging garden, but in the inner city it is RARE to see one...

so kudos to them!!
When seeing all this natural inspiration I usually start to think of drawing.... and maybe creating a textile design or two........But if these images don't do it for you in quite the same way, maybe listening to a master textile artist might give you further impetus to be creative..
And I have the event for you...
The Japanese Foundation is presenting a talk on the 'History of Japanese Colour - The Colour Tale of Genji' by Sachio Yoshioka. Sachio Yoshioka is a textile dyer and historian working in Kyoto, Japan. You will be able to hear him talk about the Japanese art of natural dying and how he has revived techniques that date from the 8thc. If you have seen Japanese textile design it is truly beautiful and weaves into the history of a people and a country..... It is on Friday Oct 2nd at Chifley Plaza at 6 30pm

............................switch...........................

I have found the track of the month or maybe the year! Big call I know but when I first heard it I stopped chair dancing and had to get up! Its Tropical Hands by Dorian Concept. They hail from Austria and from a jazzy background.... i want to see them here over summer as the beat to this track would be amazing to hear live....
