the cool breeze....

What a weekend of weather we just had in Old Sydney Town! I don't often talk about the weather as it is an easy subject to fall into when you cant think of anything else to say...

You know.....
"how are you?
Yeah im good im good.
Geez did you see that rain we had this morning...?
blah blah blah"...

However, in this instance the weather that we experienced on Saturday was indeed something to talk about, as it was truly poetic. Sydney experiences these amazing summer storms from time to time; storms that can be so atmospheric and tropical that you become mesmerised.

The day starts off hot, boiling hot, and you know that its going to reach 40c at about 11am. Its muggy and sticky and you only have to step outside your door and you're tired and wet. You can see the air as it is languid and dense, and the only solution to the heat of the day is to stay in one spot and drink copious amounts of cold liquid! That is unless you brave the traffic in an air conditioned car that could produce ice, with the aim of getting to the beach or pool to lie on the surface of the water without glaring up at the scorching sun. You get back home, have a freezing cold shower that makes you hot again as you dry off, and you lie on your kitchen tiles, contemplating the idea of sticking your head in the freezer!

And then something shifts...

You smell something different in the air.

You open up the window or door and stick your nose out, like a dog with its head hanging out of the passenger seat window. Its the cool change. You breathe in deeply and sigh - it's here. You open up all the doors, all the windows and sit outside on the grass and feel the temperature go down while the dark clouds start to form. The rain is on its way. But until then you close your eyes and enjoy the breeze, and relax for the first time that day....

That was my Saturday.

I finished one book and started another. That was until the cool change came. Then I went for a walk in a very quiet neighbourhood that had stared to experience the long weekend exodus!!
Hope you have a lovely Tuesday, whether you commemorate Australia Day or Sorry Day.
See you on the other side.
