Interesting afternoon!
A good friend of mine Kath Fries is
about to open her latest exhibition
and she asked fellow friends
to help install
the work...
namely
... feathers!
in a lovely and quiet space
at Gaffa...
The exhibition is called Proliferation and last week
a similar work was installed in Byron
as part of their Artscape sculptural festival...
and how we waste inconsequential products and by-products
in the name of progress...
struck with a mood of sadness + loss...
Especially when the spot lights hit the feathers...
Especially when the spot lights hit the feathers...
creating a calm and soft environment...
like in one big doona!
trying to wedge feathers in the wall jams!
surrounded by tiny white flecks of softness...
The feathers were a lovely material to work with actually....
with no sneezing in sight!
I loved the shadowy effect on the walls in this shot....
and the sight of all the little details....
and the sight of all the little details....
in the second room...
poetic and simple isn't it?
Proliferation opens tonight at Gaffa Gallery in Clarence st and will be open until July 13
On July 10 Kath will be giving a talk about the piece at 2pm in the exhibition space.
Its a free event and everyone is welcome....
A book about the project called Feather is available from Gaffa and is a lovely catalogue of Kath's work...
Congratulations toots!
