I did not know it even existed!
But that is so typical of Sydney Harbour...!
There are so many secret squirrel spots, tucked around the foreshore, that it takes an event to locate them!
And that is how I found Sawmill Reserve...
Saturday marked the opening of the inaugural Sawmill Sculpture Prize - where 50 emerging and established sculptors exhibited their pieces in this beautiful park in McMahon's Point North Sydney. It was a three day event, and on Saturday the 3 judges announced the winner of the $10,000 first prize! And what a lovely prize it is too, as there are not many major open air sculpture prises in Sydney, other than the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in November.
I had such a lovely day... helped by the fact that it was hot and sunny day, and I was by the harbour! Here are a few shots of the exhibition that Id like to share with you...
I hope you enjoy them and that you look out for the prize when it rolls around next year!
I certainly will...!
The place was absolutely packed with visitors but somehow I managed to shoot the works minus people traffic! This work was at the beginning and it was an imposing piece!
It was by Belinda Villani...
Love the wood on wood! Actually looking back at all the shots, I now realise that there was a big boat theme running through the show....
Obvious I guess...
Boat = Harbour!
Looks like liquid silver through the trees with the strong midday sun peaking through...
Love the cut outs on these gun metal grey shapes...
Anyone?
The piece was called Flask by Michelle Perrett ...
The piece was called Flask by Michelle Perrett ...
Looks like a council clean up!
Very clever methinks!
Love the cut outs on these gun metal grey shapes...
A wave of twigs by the water....
It was a beautiful piece...
But there were so so many pieces to this sculpture puzzle, making it look like a very big kids toy!
With an actual boat on the water that DOES look like a toy boat!!
Beautiful shapes...
Picture frame sculpture?!
And the white buoys in the water look like lights.... but they were lit by the sun ...
just cos...
I like it!
It was by Jon Voss and its a bird in the water, surrounded by a natural wreck in the harbour!
Isn't it great?!
Again.... it was all a new discovery...!
