treasures...treasures everywhere!

Sorry I missed our Monday catch up together...
I'm usually all into the Monday blogging sessions...
But yesterday my energies were pulling me in a totally different direction
{has anyone else noticed that despite all their good intentions, their day suddenly veers off course?} I know some of you may call that having kids!

So it has to be a Tuesday meet and greet...
and a run down of all things gallery, as there are alot of things happening in the CBD!
First up I wanted to share with you these photos, of the Say Your Piece brooch exhibition that was in the Keeper Gallery space at Gaffa...
Sadly Jess, the curator and organiser, will be taking it down as we speak..
so its nice to upload it as a virtual show for you all!
Above is an image of the entrance to the show and an introduction to the theme colour of the shoe...orange! I loved it! It was completely different for a jewellery show to have so much colour on the walls but I loved it... it made everything vibrant and fun! And made all the white walls pink...as you can see from all these photos!!

So...
... the orange strip anchored the exhibition and above there was a line of brooches.... every piece from a different artist...So there was no key theme other than the concept of recycling an old piece of jewellery to make a new wearable brooch...

You may recognise my tiny brooch called t i m e . p i e c e.
It sold on the night and I was so surprised and excited as there were so many beautiful pieces made by 'real' jewellers!
The hands....
By Courtney Meacham....

tiny brooch....big title by Penny Snars!
It's called....
Through hardships to the stars - By this sign shall you conquer 2010!
Love it miss money penny... could you please let me know where it came from... A poem perhaps??
It's mad with an old money clip and plastic from packaging that has been melted....
Very dark...
I love the shadow effect on the wall!
Emma Fielden
en.grave 2010
this beautiful piece was made with silver sourced from discarded jewellery, lead pencil and vanish..

Love this piece!!!
Mounted bunny courtesy of Andrew Robards...
It's called To catch a thief 2010 and its a schleich toy hare that has been mounted onto a found pendant... poor peter!

Love the flow of this piece by Sarah O'Sullivan...
Its also two pieces in one and feels very much like a Remembrance brooch like a dove with some flowers for a loved one....

The fob! A real one! Mine was fake but this is the real deal...by Jasmine Matus called...
The time, it stood still... 2010
Inside it Jasmine has stuffed felt which is a lovely surrealist idea...and its upside down too!

A rose... by Olenka Fombertaux-Jararweh...
Its called Grasp the nettle, come up Roses 2010
I'm loving all these great titles!

I really liked this one by Helen Mok called Fly with me 2010
Its made from gold leaf, sterling silver and existing badges
and they do remind me of a Air force pins...!
I love that inside each one there are glass beads!

Collage of textures by David Wickens...
Strong, masculine and very Art Deco!
well for me it feels Art Deco!

And lucky last it is the felt octopus!
The Ocean does not want me today 2010 by Rachel O'Louglin!
Very cute...
Well....
I hope you enjoyed the show!
Congratulations to all involved as it was a fun and innovative exhibition...
Maybe next year we could move the concept on and make pendants???
There are plenty of old jewellery pieces still out there to recycle!!

Switching up now...
From the old to the new!
In another part on the city two new exhibition are about to open!
I swear the CBD is gong through alittle bit of a gallery Renaissance, courtesy of the Miss Clover Moore who is attempting a mini revival of the grey, cold + uninspiring streets of the city! She wants a new Melbourne flavour, and as such she is helping many artist run spaces and art festivals to open their doors in town...God bless her!
So along with Gaffa .....we now have the paper mill which will officially open its doors tomorrow!
the paper mill at Angel Place is a new gallery that will focus on all things paper!
Zines, sculptures, drawings.... and it will have a retail, residency and gallery space...
Good luck to all involved with the big reveal tomorrow night, and I hope to bring you some images of this new venture soon!
And finally...
The lovely Kath Fries will open her new exhibition called Grove at The Japan Foundation at Chifley Square... also on Wednesday night...and also in the city!
Yay the city!!!
Exciting times!!
The installation piece will be a huge multi media piece that will use mirrors, video, bamboo and rope... Based on a 1oth century Japanese tale of The Bamboo Cutter.
The exhibition is part of a series of events being held by the finalists of Facenate, a major art prize sponsored by The Japanese Foundation! Kath is one of the three finalists!
Good luck to Kath on the opening her exhibition and to all that are involved with the paper mill!
A big Wednesday night indeed!!!
