Inner visions....

Land scape.
Such a subjective thing.
A place, a feeling, a moment in time -
A journey, a memory or an emotion-

Through the personal gaze landscapes constantly shift....
And with the flick of a brush, the click of the camera or a push of a recording button
it is captured.

A memento of time.

Ive been thinking alot about my interpretation of landscape lately. What it means to me - and how I portray my versions of it. When I think or feel the landscape that im in - is it the colours that im responding to? The emotions that the landscape provokes in me? The textures of the different materials that im surrounded by or the weather that creates a certain type of mood...?

While putting together a proposal for a scholarship {a joy at the best of times!!!} Ive had to trawl through some of my past recollections of landscape.

And I thought Id share a few of them with you too...

Let me know what you think...

And what kind of response they evoke in you...

s w i t c h ....

Reading the paper today I found out that Fred Cress lost his battle with cancer in the last week. I man whos name has been in the Australian artworld for many many years, Fred will be missed. Love this work called Manning from 1974... from his lyrical abstract period.

The 70s was a time when abstraction was really making its mark in Australia. The colours are beautiful and soft and the geometric lines reminds me of one of my other favourtite painter from that time Frank Auerbach, another Englishman.

I love this line from the paper which said....

'he did not use photographs, or even detailed sketches as an aid, but relied on his inner visions...'

And I guess in the end that is what a landscape truly is...

An inner vision....
