curious george.

OK...its confession time.
I have a massive magazine obsession, and it is my drug of choice. Some people like alcohol, some like coffee, others travelling... Me? I love magazines. I love the layouts, the different types of font, the use of high colour, and features on photographers and decorating! Sad I know, but very true...
I think it comes from my creativity and always being on the hunt for the next new spark of inspiration. Ive always been the same, and to admit to another dirty secret, I also love ripping up old issues of Inside out, vogue and Harpers and storing away pages and pages of ideas in big old black school folders stashed underneath the bed....
There...that's the truth.... the whole truth!

Lately my fascination has turned into a voyeuristic exercise in learning how people collect and hang their artworks... I call it 'art research' and that is partially true! But I really do love seeing what people buy and display for their homes...And in this months issue Vouge Living its the creative space of Dinosaur Designs Louise Olsen and her husband Stephen Ormandy that has me truly hooked....

This painting in the background is by Stephen who has now just been picked up by Louise Olsen's brothers gallery The Tim Olsen Gallery in Paddington...ahhh the connections!!...
He has always said that he is an artist trapped inside the persona of a successful jewellery brand...So now he is fulfilling a life long ambition of being a painter in his own right!
Its a lovely Op art painting ... with great use of colour and space...

Louise is the daughter of THE John Olsen, so you know she is going to have a great collection of his paintings and drawings... In that grouping {above right} there is also a lovely sketch by the great artist Robert Klippel, whom I also love!
But the way these works have been hung is beautiful, and it is a great collection of small abstract works... The colours are all similar and they are framed really simply which I love. I also like the large collection of magazines which sits below! Looks familiar....

Louise, Stephen and their daughter... Not sure of the portrait of Louise with the butterflies that sits in the background! It's painted by David Bromely, and even though the painting was a finalist for the Archibald, I'm still not so sure about his style... I do however love the big John Olsen that sit on the far right....!

Such a great grouping of Aboriginal art pieces... Really textural and a great contrast to all the high colour abstract works in their art collection...

LOVE this John Passmore work in the foreground!!! And the dinosaur hanging sculpture in the stair well works which works so well with it! All the moody greys.... I wish I could see more of the rug too as I'm sure it looks amazing with the whole scheme too...

Anyway that was just one article!
You can imagine what Im like when Im looking through a copy of British Vogue Living!!!
Crazy..but its a great passtime for a rainy day like today
... isn't it?!!!

I share your addiction... I call my magazines 'homewares porn' and it's always a happy day when one that I subscribe to arrives in the mailbox : )
