lost worlds....quiet spaces.

I feel like I'm starting this blog mid conversation....
but you remember that I said I had been out to Cockatoo Island this week
to view the Sydney Biennale component of the exhibition?
Well while I was out there
I realised that the more I viewed the art works
the more images I was shooting of the buildings out there!
There is so so much history to that place
From a colonial prison, a girls school, a steel factory for Navel parts during the war...
and on + on + on....
And what remains out there is an artists' dream...
It is like a floating world
A relic to the past
and yet firmly situated in the present, as an artistic venue...
I love the colours, the textures, the rusty parts and the peeling paint..
It's tragic and beautiful all in one.
And like the Greek photographer Stratis Vogiatizis I featured a few months ago...
Who documented the uninhabited Greek Island of Chios....
The place has alot of beautiful coloured layers to peel back
and I'm happy to document those layers!
Enjoy....

Can you read what is says....'no more violence'...
Justified as this place was part of the World War II machine...

LOVE this old switch board...
Retro or what...

Warm light and ALOT of coloured cords + wires...

Cold light and a very black room... with a lovely green door frame....
Have a ever said that I love the dark?

Layers or what!!
On the right is a text artwork by Jonathan Barnbrook who created the typeface and graphic design for this year's Biennale.... juxtaposition or what!!! Graphic tight artwork vs. crumbling ruin!

This is one of my favourite images....
nuff said!

Love this one two.... the light...the pale blue colour...the light switch..and the texture on the walls...

The colour of all this peeling paint was amazing!
It looked like a mural in a way...
I'm sure it's just me that feels this way!
The cheese must stand alone!

Love that every door... every window... every space was free to explore....
Quiet spaces ... and very ghostly...
Hope you enjoyed this tiny tour sponsored by the letter 't'...
{I'm starting to sound like Sesame Street!!}
Have a great weekend...
and whatever sun that comes your way!
